Careers in Health Work Experience Program
Barwon Health recognises the need to promote healthcare as a rewarding and exciting career choice to strengthen our workforce in to the future. Work experience helps young people understand career options and related courses of study that they may wish to pursue.
Barwon Health has delivered a week-long clinically-based work experience program since 2013, run by the Clinical Education and Training team. As the safety of Barwon Health’s patients and clients is of utmost importance, students are not accepted on work experience to be based in a clinical area, but are offered simulated learning opportunities guided by expert and passionate health professionals. During the week of activities, students are hosted at a number of sites including the hospital, rehabilitation centre, aged care residences, and education spaces.
The clinical work experience program allows students exposure to a broad range of careers including, but not limited to, nursing, medicine, midwifery, physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology, occupational therapy, dietetics, medical imaging and psychology.
Year 10 students attending school full time in the Greater Geelong, Bellarine Peninsula or Surf Coast municipalities are welcome to apply for the program. We partner with the Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Network Inc. (GRLLEN) who will forward exact dates and information regarding the application process to Secondary School Careers Teachers during Terms 1 & 2 each year. All information including how to apply each year is managed through the GRLLEN and secondary school careers staff.
